Side of Beef

A couple of weeks ago my sister Mary Beth went an auction at the 4H fair where her friend's daughter Molly was showing her animals. She ended up bidding on and winning a quarter side of beef and a half lamb. That's a lot of meat to store so she bought a freezer for it.

Here she is picking up the meat:

And here she is moving it out of the freezer and into the furnace so that Mark won't find out how much she spent:

Unfortunately she got trapped in the freezer and turned into a human popsicle, and then the furnace got turned on with the meat in it.

"Don't ask any questions, just grab a knife, a fork, a bottle of ketchup and follow me to the biggest barbecue in the whole world!"

Very clever and funny, Mindy- but when I looked at the first photo, though, I thought that maybe Ethel was supposed to be YOU. Did you know- I may have invented the cut and paste bit with photos of someone's head to be on a transposed photo or cartoon. Remember your baby shower invitation? Aunt Chris

Mindy -
That was HILARIOUS! Now where have I perhaps seen that same story? I have a feeling it may have happened before to someone else!!!

Let me clarify, I bought a 1/4 of a steer and a WHOLE lamb. Not that I know what to do with all of the shoulders, shanks, legs, chops and other parts. Mark said, "Mary Beth...... you have some splainin to do!" When I was dragging all of that meat in house (clothes basket by clothes basket), Milo was jumping around like he just won lotto. BBQ at our house!

Here's a slightly strange part, after you win the auction, you get your picture taken with the student who raised the animal and the animal (momento or memorial?). So, when the pictures come maybe I'll have Mindy post a picture of the cow and lamb who are now chopped up in the freezer and who we are eating for dinners. Rather bizarre. Needless to say now is not the time for us to become vegetarians.
